The Texas Tech University Sports Performance Center is the largest single volume facility of its kind in the country at 156,245 sq. ft. Built by Texas Tech University System Facilities Planning & Construction, Gensler architects, and Flintco, the center was completed on January 2, 2018, and houses an indoor track; a field competition complex that seats up to 2,000 fans; the Petersen Family Indoor Football Practice Facility, which includes a 75,500 sq. ft. football field; the Becky and Kelly Joy Nutrition Center; the Plains Capital Bank Sports Medicine Center; and a strength and conditioning center. The Sports Performance Center was made possible through the Campaign for Fearless Champions.

The Sports Performance Center is also home to “Run”, a public art piece created by Simon Donovan and Ben Olmstead, as part of the Texas Tech University System Public Art Collection. ”Run” showcases five sequential depictions of a female athlete running and was inspired by images of Texas Tech University track athletes. Each pose appears to be captured by freeze-frame or stop-motion animation. To create the illusion of movement, each figure is created out of dozens of laser cut vertical slices of stainless steel, with each layer held apart by pegs. “Run” can be found on the northwest corner of the Texas Tech University Sports Performance Center where it is illuminated at night by red LED lights.
